Wharfedale 10
Keighley 5

Keighley were up for this and scored the first try very early on, and continued to pressure The Greens for the rest of the first half.  But the Greens defence held, allowing confidence to grow.  In the Second half, good work from the 'front three' of Tom Robinson, Sam Aveyard and Peter Davey disrupted the Keighley flow, leading to a typically strong from Elliot Stockton resulting in a try to draw The Greens level.  While Keighley tried once more to get ahead, the ball was stolen by Wharfedale who worked it to Jack Reynard who scored the winning try.

Wharfedale 20

With the Wharfedale players now energised from a hard fought victory, Keighley were to experience playing The Greens at something like their best.  Jack Reynard scored his second try of the day, soon followed by Archie Hancock.  As much as Keighley tried to disrupt The Green Machine, Wharfedale began to pass the ball more effectively.  Oliver Shuttleworth finishing off from some good build up play, before Joe Fawcett scored the fourth try.  Keighley fought hard to the end, and must be applauded, but Wharfedale U9s are looking like a strong team.

KEIGHLEY V. WHARFEDALE

9th March 2008

It has been a long time since the previous match, the bad weather always appearing on a Sunday morning, but a soggy pitch and downpour couldn't stop this fixture.

The Green Machine applied pressure on the Keighley defence from the kick-off, and after an excellent display of ball retention Katy Mousedale toched down the first try. That set the scene for the first half, Wharfedale continuing to press, leading to the ball being fed to Matthew Daggett who saw the space in the corner for the Greens' second try. Wharfedale didn't have it all their own way, Keighley had their fair share of possession, and had it not been for a try saving tackle by Jack Reynard (a feat he repeated in the second half), Keighley could have tied this match. The third Wharfedale try came just before half-time. This time a text-book forwards move driving a maul from the half-way line to just short of the line and Joe Fawcett being fed the ball to drive over the line.

The second half was much the same from Wharfedale, however Keighley fought themselves into the match, but only after the Greens had scored two more tries. The first of those came from Tom Mann, whose willingness to run at the Keighley defence was eventually rewarded. The final Wharfedale try came from a determined Elliot Stockton whom Keighley could not stop all match. Keighley, though five tries down, played their part in what would of been a magnificent comeback. Keighley never gave up, scoring three late tries but, unfortunately for them, they came too late.

A great team performance, with too many individuals standing out to mention, superbly directed on the pitch by captain for the day, and man of the match Peter Davey.

Final Score Keighley 15 - Wharfedale 25

Huddersfield V. Wharfedale

2nd December 2007

The Green Machine game plan was to blitz YMCA and force them back towards their own line.  The way in which the Greens scored eight tries, and could have been more but for a stubborn YMCA defence who never gave up, proved this team is pulling together.

Bradley Dutton scored first (one of two for him), and set the scene as confidence was high.  Further tries from Joe Fawcett (two), Elliot Stockton (one) and Oliver Shuttleworth (three) underlined a superb team effort.  Despite conceding four tries, a risk of the blitz plan, the game was won by ensuring YMCA couldn't break through the defensive line.  Peter Davey and Sam Aveyard ensuring nothing got past them on one wing, Jack Reynard guarding the centre and Matt Daggett making his presence felt with some important tackles across the width of the pitch.  As well as scoring three, Oliver Shuttleworth was key in most of the other tries, for this tremendous effort, Oliver was awarded man of the match.

Final Score Huddersfield YMCA U9s 20 - 40 Wharfedale U9s

Wharfedale v. Wensleydale

7th October 2007

Two matches were played against the visiting Wensleydale squad, the first match ending in a draw, Oliver Wildman scoring the only try for the Greens after great work by the whole team ending in Oliver stretching for the line. Sam scored the reply for Wensleydale. Final Score 5 - 5

The second match was again very evenly contested, Sam scoring first for Wensleydale with a blistering run down the touch line and almost immediately Jack Raynard scoring the first Wharfedale Try. Wensleydale replied with a further try before excellent Wensleydale defence prevented Oliver Wildman from scoring in the corner with a great cover tackle into touch, Half time score 5 - 10 to the visitors.

Jo Fawcett and Archie Hancock both then scored for the Green Machine to take the score to 15 - 10, then a mazy run from Elliot Stockton from his own half stretched the Wharfedale lead. The final phase of the match saw brilliant green defence repelling wave after wave of Wensleydale attackers, eventually succumbing to Sam scoring for Wensleydale at the end of the match.

Final score Wharfedale 20 - Wensleydale 15 .
