Baildon Festival

Sunday 28th October saw the U11's visit Baildon for the annual Baildon Festival, under a beautiful sunny sky, the team put in an excellent performance, with flowing rugby and great ball re-tension, resulting in winning the Tournament for the 3rd year running

Wharfedale 5  vs. West Park 0

A very hard fought match was predicted.  f rom the off, Wharfedale's attacking intensions were obvious with fine rucking and ball recycling. However West Park showed good defense until just before half time when James Otulakowski scored after some fast passing. The second half proved very close with neither side scoring.

Wharfedale 35  vs. Baildon 0

The second match was against the hosts Baildon, and again from the off Wharfedale showed their good passing skills. The front row strengths enabled Patrick Travis  to score a try followed closely by Ben Booth and Jed Brewis rounding off the first half with three tries. In the second half Baildon came back at Wharfedale but again Jed Brewis scored twice and Troy Lockyear scored once after a very fast passage of play.

Wharfedale 40  vs. Skipton 5

From the outset Wharfedale attacked and almost immediately scored a try by Joe Jackson  followed closely after continued forward effort by four more tries from Lawrence Wallace  , Jed Brewis, Troy Lockyear and Ben Booth. The second half started well for  Skipton when they scored what was to be the only try against Wharfedale in the entire tournament. Wharfedale came back at Skipton immediately with great tries from Adam Birch , Troy Lockyear and  Adam Hopkins .

Wharfedale 35  vs. Keighley 0

In the final match of the tournament Wharfedale's team continued their strong attacking and ball in hand skills and in the first half Joe Metcalfe scored twice along with Troy Lockyear. The second half began in a similar vein with Troy Lockyear and Ben Booth scoring tries early on. Followed by a  further try from Joe Metcalfe and another try from Ben Booth.

A superb team effort from all the young greens,

Wharfedale 47 vs. Huddersfield YMCA 7

Wharfedale, apprehensive after their gruelling encounter away at Huddersfield where they narrowly beat YMCA, came out with great attitude and vitality. The Greens took advantage of an early off-side penalty to kick deep into the opposition's territory, and Jed Brewis stormed through to score the opening try. Wharfedale's pack applied relentless pressure on YMCA and the backs closed down every attack the visitors could muster. Three tries from James Otulakowski put Wharfedale in a commanding lead at half time which they consolidated thereafter with three more from Man of the Match Matthew Crowe, Otulakowski and Brewis, all converted comfortably by Marcus Farnworth. YMCA caught Wharfedale off guard in the dying minutes for a consolation try and conversion.

Wharfedale 28 vs Huddersfield -  7


Wharfedale entertained Huddersfield at home, following last weeks game against Keighley where Dale ran out 77 - 0 winners.
A harder encounter against Huddersfield was anticipated, condition where ideal .Wharfedale playing up the slope where soon into their stride

Good exchanges at the base of the scrum and pressure on Huddersfield led to a loose ball being collected ,and moved quickly along the backs led to Marcus F arnworth scoring the first try , Joe Metcalf converted the try. Wharfedale forwards then took control and after more sustained pressure, Prop Jed Brewis powered his way to score Wharfedale second try ,Joe Metcalf converted.
The game continued to be dominated by Wharfedale ,the try of the half and the match saw James Otulakowski pick up the loose ball from the scrum in his own half and outpaced Huddersfield forwards and backs to sprint over for Wharfedale's  third try, this was converted by Joe Metcalf . Half time soon followed.

The Second  half Wharfedale made six changes , the game was more even ,and Huddersfield gained good field position with a deep kick, The game was being played in Wharfedale's half, and after ten minutes of  keen exchanges , Dale broke down field and the backs moved the ball along the line and Joe Jackson scored the fourth try, converted by Marcus Farnworth

 

Huddersfield responded with their best period of the match and it was no surprise when they scored their only try of the match.This was converted.
